WORKFLOW ACTIONS

What you can configure.

Choose an action in the workflow builder, connect an account, and map its inputs. These actions are available in the catalog; your account access and a successful test determine whether they work for your setup.

Get dashboard

Read

Read a dashboard title and link without returning its widgets or queries.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • dashboards_read

Operation limits

  • Only dashboard identity and display metadata are returned. Widget queries and notification lists remain in Datadog.

Get monitor

Read

Read a monitor's current overall state and identifying details.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • monitors_read

Operation limits

  • Monitor query text, notification recipients and full configuration are excluded from workflow results.

List dashboards

Read

List custom and cloned dashboards (not Datadog's preset ones).

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • dashboards_read

List events

Read

Search events with Datadog's event query syntax and a time range, newest first by default.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • events_read

Post event

Write

Post an event to the event stream, with tags, an alert type and priority.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • An API key (events are posted with the API key alone)

A repeated request may repeat the external action. Review the previous result before retrying a write.

Query metric timeseries

Read

Query bounded timeseries points in an explicit Unix-second window of at most seven days.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • timeseries_query

Operation limits

  • Uses the supported V1 timeseries endpoint. Datadog recommends V2 for new advanced cross-product queries; formulas and multiple products are outside this action.
  • Local limits: seven-day window, 100 series, 10000 points per series and the shared 2 MB response cap. Reduce the range or use query rollups if the provider exceeds these bounds. Empty series are a valid result.

Search logs

Read

Read one bounded page of logs in an explicit absolute window of at most 24 hours.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • logs_read_data

Operation limits

  • Returns one page of at most 100 logs. Keep the same query and absolute window when passing meta.page.after as cursor. The 24-hour window and output bounds are local policy.
  • Timeouts and warning-bearing partial results fail without advancing a saved workflow cursor. Custom log attributes and provider next URLs are excluded. Log messages may contain sensitive application data; grant this read deliberately.

Pagination: cursor. Check the result for additional pages; a single action may not return every record.

Search monitors

Read

Search monitor names, status and severity in the connected Datadog site.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • monitors_read

Operation limits

  • Returns one page. Use page to request subsequent results; the search query follows Datadog's monitor search syntax.

Pagination: page. Check the result for additional pages; a single action may not return every record.

Submit metrics

Write

Send metric points (count, rate or gauge) that Datadog can graph and alert on.

Permissions and limits

Account permissions

  • An API key (metrics are submitted with the API key alone)

Operation limits

  • NodeHub sends at most 100 series of 100 points per call; Datadog limits a payload to 500 KB and accepts points from up to an hour ago.

A repeated request may repeat the external action. Review the previous result before retrying a write.

SETUP

Start with a controlled test.

01Connect the intended account

Use the account and permissions required for your process. Review the connection check before configuring a workflow action.

02Review inputs and access

Select a listed operation and map its required inputs. Use test records and add a human approval before writes that need review.

03Confirm the result

Inspect step outputs and confirm the result in Datadog. A saved workflow is not a completed provider action.
